MARGARITAVILLE WITH A SPLASH OF… —A UNIQUE WEDDING CEREMONY
Ruth and Frank had a wonderful and entirely unique wedding ceremony that promises to become a memory to treasure.
Some 100 family members and friends gathered together on July 19 last summer in a lovely tropical setting with a beachy island vibe created specifically for the wedding at the Madison Greenhouse venue in Newmarket, Ontario, to celebrate the marriage of Ruth Osten and Frank Kailik. Ruth described the wedding as “Margaritaville with a splash of Star Wars.”
Ruth wore a gorgeous strapless gown, and Frank was splendid in his light summer suit, but Ruth said what probably drew most attention and brought a smile to everyone’s faces was her adult nephew Mark, who turned up fully outfitted as a Star Wars Sith Lord. Ruth and Frank are big fans of both the Jimmy Buffett philosophy and Star Wars. “We wanted to incorporate this and have a relaxed Margaritaville vibe for the ceremony and afterwards,” said Ruth.
Frank is a busy client manager in the financial field, and Ruth is a training and development manager in the technical automotive industry. They now live not far from the venue in Newmarket, just north of Toronto, where they started married life, tying the knot after almost four wonderful years.
“We actually met on a dating site!” Ruth adds. That was the start of their romance, and they soon knew they were a perfect match.
Ruth said they had looked hard for the ideal officiant to conduct their interfaith wedding ceremony and really wanted a perfect match here, too. And they knew when they found the Rabbi that they had found the right person to marry them. When they started looking, they seemed to find people who either didn’t return calls or weren’t open to discussion.
“Or they wanted to conduct a civil wedding that didn’t refer to God. We wanted God in our ceremony and knew right away that the Rabbi was the person we wanted to marry us. He knew from the start exactly what we meant by Margaritaville with a touch of Star Wars and made sure the ceremony reflected this. He could quote from Margaritaville when we first met and gave us everything we hoped for in our ceremony.”
In their testimonial, Ruth and Frank indicated that from the first all went without a hitch and helped everything proceed smoothly. “The Rabbi gives you questionnaires to fill out and gives great advice when navigating what you’d like to leave in or take out… the sermon he created, literally every single word, was right on theme and got a lot of laughs… He customizes everything to your needs and wants, and he is a delightful person in general. Several people afterwards asked me where we found him (because he was so amazing).”
The wedding ceremony, the reception, and the party afterward will be very happy memories. There were many special moments, and the celebrations included great music, a Margaritaville line dance, an Oreo challenge, and the many bubbles everyone loved blowing at the ceiling—and then there were the light sabers and (hopefully) playful battles!
Frank and Ruth report that it was the perfect joyous ceremony, relaxing and easy thanks to the Rabbi (and their wedding planner, Catherine at matilyn.ca)—meeting their hopes for an unforgettable “Margaritaville with a splash of Star Wars” wedding to remember.
